2022 Best Value Doctor’s Degree Colleges for Computer Science (Income $0-$30k) in the Rocky Mountains Region

In 2019-2020, 53,722 people earned their degree in computer science, making the major the 19th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, computer science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $66,561 and had an average of $23,565 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Rocky Mountains region, there were 2,726 computer science graduates with average earnings and debt of $57,284 and $30,728 respectively. At the doctor’s degree level specifically, there were 89 computer science graduates with average earnings and debt of $75,140 and $97,138 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value CompSci Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region For Those Making $0-$30k” ranking, we looked at 10 colleges that offer a degree in computer science. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great computer science programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the computer science program at the school and the cost of the school after aid is awarded among other things. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Out of the 10 schools in the Best Value CompSci Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region For Those Making $0-$30k that were part of this year’s ranking, Brigham Young University - Provo landed the #1 spot on the list. Brigham Young University - Provo is located in Provo, Utah and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 5 doctorate’s compsci degrees to qualified students.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at BYU, the school also landed the #2 spot in our “Best Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” ranking. University of Wyoming is a fairly large public school situated in Laramie, Wyoming. It awarded 2 doctorate’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.

Average graduate tuition and fees at UW are $16,615, but some majors have different tuition rates.
Out of the 10 schools in the Best Value CompSci Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region For Those Making $0-$30k that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Utah landed the #3 spot on the list. This large school is located in Salt Lake City, Utah, and it awarded 7 doctorate’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.
U of U did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #4 on our “Best Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” list. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at U of U are $24,695.
Out of the 10 schools in the Best Value CompSci Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region For Those Making $0-$30k that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Colorado Boulder landed the #4 spot on the list. This large school is located in Boulder, Colorado, and it awarded 15 doctorate’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.

Moscow, Idaho is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out doctorate’s compsci degrees to 2 students in 2019-2020.
U of I also took the #6 spot in our “Best Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” ranking. Average graduate tuition and fees at U of I are $29,112, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.
Colorado School of Mines came in at #6 in this year’s edition of the Best Value CompSci Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region For Those Making $0-$30k ranking. Colorado School of Mines is a medium-sized public school situated in Golden, Colorado. It awarded 2 doctorate’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.
Mines did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #3 on our “Best Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at Mines are $39,800, but some majors have different tuition rates.
Boise State University did quite well in the 2022 Best Value CompSci Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region For Those Making $0-$30k ranking, coming in at #7. This large school is located in Boise, Idaho, and it awarded 3 doctorate’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.

Montana State University did quite well in the 2022 Best Value CompSci Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region For Those Making $0-$30k ranking, coming in at #8. MSU Bozeman is located in Bozeman, Montana and, has a fairly large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 3 doctorate’s compsci degrees to qualified students.
MSU Bozeman not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #9 on our “Best Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at Montana State University are $21,446, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.
With a ranking of #9, Colorado Technical University - Colorado Springs did quite well on the 2022 Best Value CompSci Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region For Those Making $0-$30k list. Colorado Technical University - Colorado Springs is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 47 doctorate’s compsci degrees to qualified students.

Located in Denver, Colorado, this fairly large private not-for-profit school handed out 1 degrees to qualified doctorate’s compsci students in 2019-2020.
DU also made our “Best Computer Science Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” list, coming in at #5. Average graduate tuition and fees at University of Denver are $52,899, but some majors have different tuition rates.
