Computer Science is the 19th most popular major in the country with 53,722 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, computer science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $66,561 and had an average of $23,565 in loans still to pay off.
At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 12,651 computer science graduates with average earnings and debt of $56,398 and $43,194 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k” ranking, we looked at 210 colleges that offer a degree in computer science. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent computer science programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the computer science program at the school and the cost of the school after aid is awarded among other things. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Top 25 Best Value Master’s Degree Colleges for Computer Science (Income $30-$48k)
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The school came in at #1 for the Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k. Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a private not-for-profit institution located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 239 masters’s degrees in 2019-2020.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at MIT, the school also landed the #2 spot in our “Best Computer Science Master’s Degree Schools” ranking. Average graduate tuition and fees at MIT are $56,719, but some majors have different tuition rates.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Stanford University. It ranked #2 on our 2022 Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k list. Located in Stanford, California, this fairly large private not-for-profit school awarded 306 diplomas to qualified masters’s compsci students in 2019-2020.
Stanford did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #1 on our “Best Computer Science Master’s Degree Schools” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at Stanford are $55,011, but some majors have different tuition rates.
Out of the 210 schools in the Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k that were part of this year’s ranking, Duke University landed the #3 spot on the list. Duke is a fairly large private not-for-profit school situated in Durham, North Carolina. It awarded 45 masters’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.
Duke also made our “Best Computer Science Master’s Degree Schools” list, coming in at #6. Average graduate tuition and fees at Duke are $59,140, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Harvard University. The school came in at #4 for the Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k. Harvard is a large school located in Cambridge, Massachusetts that handed out 35 masters’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.
Harvard also took the #5 spot in our “Best Computer Science Master’s Degree Schools” ranking. Average graduate tuition and fees at Harvard are $50,654, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.

With a ranking of #7, Brown University did quite well on the 2022 Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k list. This medium-sized school is located in Providence, Rhode Island, and it awarded 107 masters’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.

Cornell University ranked #8 on this year’s Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k list. Located in Ithaca, New York, this large private not-for-profit school handed out 279 degrees to qualified masters’s compsci students in 2019-2020.

Washington University in St Louis came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k ranking. Washington University in St Louis is a fairly large school located in Saint Louis, Missouri that handed out 113 masters’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.
WUSTL not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #14 on our “Best Computer Science Master’s Degree Schools” list. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at Washington University in St Louis are $56,562.
Columbia University in the City of New York came in at #10 in this year’s edition of the Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k ranking. This large school is located in New York, New York, and it awarded 442 masters’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.

University of Chicago came in at #11 in this year’s edition of the Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k ranking. University of Chicago is a fairly large private not-for-profit school situated in Chicago, Illinois. It awarded 164 masters’s compsci degrees in 2019-2020.

University of Washington - Seattle Campus did quite well in the 2022 Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k ranking, coming in at #17. Seattle, Washington is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s compsci degrees to 43 students in 2019-2020.

University of California - Berkeley came in at #18 in this year’s edition of the Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k ranking. Located in Berkeley, California, this large public school awarded 14 degrees to qualified masters’s compsci students in 2019-2020.
UC Berkeley not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #22 on our “Best Computer Science Master’s Degree Schools” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at UC Berkeley are $29,347, but some majors have different tuition rates.

California State University - Los Angeles landed the #22 spot on the 2022 Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k ranking.
