Information Science is the 56th most popular major in the country with 18,368 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, information science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $58,848 and had an average of $32,600 in loans still to pay off.
At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 6,609 information science graduates with average earnings and debt of $56,398 and $43,194 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value IS Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $75-$110k” ranking analyzed 93 colleges that offered a degree in information science. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great information science programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.

Out of the 93 schools in the Best Value IS Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $75-$110k that were part of this year’s ranking, Johns Hopkins University landed the #3 spot on the list. Baltimore, Maryland is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out masters’s IS degrees to 75 students in 2019-2020.
