In 2019-2020, 30,670 people earned their degree in electrical engineering, making the major the 31st most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, electrical engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $70,098 and had an average of $23,581 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Rocky Mountains region, there were 1,142 electrical engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $66,700 and $22,733 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 335 electrical engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $53,560 and $37,817 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value EE Schools for a Master’s in the Rocky Mountains Region For Those Getting Aid” ranking analyzed 14 colleges that offered a degree in electrical engineering. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent electrical engineering programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.

Located in Salt Lake City, Utah, this large public school handed out 47 degrees to qualified masters’s EE students in 2019-2020.
U of U did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #4 on our “Best Electrical Engineering Master’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at U of U are $24,695, but some majors have different tuition rates.
Out of the 14 schools in the Best Value EE Schools for a Master’s in the Rocky Mountains Region For Those Getting Aid that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Wyoming landed the #2 spot on the list. University of Wyoming is a fairly large public school situated in Laramie, Wyoming. It awarded 5 masters’s EE degrees in 2019-2020.
UW also took the #7 spot in our “Best Electrical Engineering Master’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” ranking. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at University of Wyoming are $16,615.

U of I is a fairly large public school situated in Moscow, Idaho. It awarded 19 masters’s EE degrees in 2019-2020.
U of I also made our “Best Electrical Engineering Master’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” list, coming in at #6. Average graduate tuition and fees at University of Idaho are $29,112, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.
