2022 Best Value Doctor’s Degree Colleges for Engineering in the Rocky Mountains Region
With all of the options students have for higher education today, it can be tough to choose which direction to take. College Factual has developed its “Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
In 2019-2020, 200,458 engineering students received their degree, making the major the 6th most popular in the country. In 2017-2018, engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $64,888 and had an average of $23,564 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Rocky Mountains region, there were 8,989 engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $62,395 and $22,856 respectively. At the doctor’s degree level specifically, there were 449 engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $75,140 and $97,138 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region” ranking, we looked at 12 colleges that offer a degree in engineering. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent engineering programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.

Provo, Utah is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out doctorate’s engineering degrees to 29 students in 2019-2020.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at BYU, the school also landed the #2 spot in our “Best Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” ranking. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at BYU are $7,510.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Wyoming. It ranked #2 on our 2022 Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region list. UW is located in Laramie, Wyoming and, has a fairly large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 23 doctorate’s engineering degrees to qualified students.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at UW, the school also landed the #10 spot in our “Best Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” ranking. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at University of Wyoming are $16,615.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend University of Utah. The school came in at #3 for the Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region. U of U is a public institution located in Salt Lake City, Utah. The school has a large population, and it awarded 67 doctorate’s degrees in 2019-2020.
U of U also made our “Best Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” list, coming in at #5. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at U of U are $24,695.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Colorado State University - Fort Collins. The school came in at #4 for the Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region. Colorado State University - Fort Collins is a public institution located in Fort Collins, Colorado. The school has a large population, and it awarded 43 doctorate’s degrees in 2019-2020.

University of Idaho came in at #6 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region ranking. University of Idaho is located in Moscow, Idaho and, has a fairly large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 18 doctorate’s engineering degrees to qualified students.
U of I also made our “Best Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” list, coming in at #7. Average graduate tuition and fees at U of I are $29,112, but some majors have different tuition rates.
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs did quite well in the 2022 Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region ranking, coming in at #7. UCCS is a fairly large public school situated in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It awarded 12 doctorate’s engineering degrees in 2019-2020.
UCCS also made our “Best Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region” list, coming in at #9. Average graduate tuition and fees at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs are $25,774, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.

With a ranking of #7, Montana State University did quite well on the 2022 Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Rocky Mountains Region list. MSU Bozeman is a fairly large school located in Bozeman, Montana that handed out 3 doctorate’s engineering degrees in 2019-2020.
