Food, Nutrition & Related Services is the 131st most popular major in the country with 4,889 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, food, nutrition and related services graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $33,096 and had an average of $25,351 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southwest region, there were 1,083 food, nutrition and related services graduates with average earnings and debt of $36,669 and $21,622 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value Nutrition Schools in the Southwest Region For Those Making $0-$30k” ranking analyzed 15 colleges that offered a degree in food, nutrition and related services. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality food, nutrition and related services programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.

Out of the 15 schools in the Best Value Nutrition Schools in the Southwest Region For Those Making $0-$30k that were part of this year’s ranking, Central New Mexico Community College landed the #1 spot on the list. CNM is a large school located in Albuquerque, New Mexico that handed out 30 ’s nutrition degrees in 2019-2020.
CNM not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #12 on our “Best Food, Nutrition & Related Services Schools in the Southwest Region” list. The yearly cost to attend CNM is $2,604 for Southwest Region Nutrition students whose families make $0-$30k.
Full Central New Mexico Community College Food, Nutrition & Related Services Report
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend The University of Texas at Austin. The school came in at #2 for the Best Value Nutrition Schools in the Southwest Region For Those Making $0-$30k. The University of Texas at Austin is a public institution located in Austin, Texas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 145 ’s degrees in 2019-2020.
UT Austin not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #1 on our “Best Food, Nutrition & Related Services Schools in the Southwest Region” list. The estimated yearly cost for UT Austin is $12,203 for southwest region nutrition students whose families make $0-$30k.
With a freshman retention rate of 97%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its students. The student loan default rate at the school is 2.7%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%.
