In 2019-2020, 5,403 people earned their degree in library and information science, making the major the 124th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, library and information science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $41,496 and had an average of $36,654 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 1,114 library and information science graduates with average earnings and debt of $38,593 and $33,653 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 1,019 library and information science graduates with average earnings and debt of $53,950 and $43,286 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region For Those Making $48-$75k” ranking, we looked at 13 colleges that offer a degree in library and information science. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent library and information science programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.

Chapel Hill, North Carolina is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s library science degrees to 54 students in 2019-2020.

The school came in at #2 for the Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region For Those Making $48-$75k. Located in Tampa, Florida, this large public school awarded 82 degrees to qualified masters’s library science students in 2019-2020.
USF Tampa also made our “Best Library & Information Science Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list, coming in at #7. Average graduate tuition and fees at University of South Florida - Main Campus are $21,126, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.
Out of the 13 schools in the Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region For Those Making $48-$75k that were part of this year’s ranking, Appalachian State University landed the #3 spot on the list. Boone, North Carolina is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s library science degrees to 24 students in 2019-2020.

Greenville, North Carolina is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s library science degrees to 83 students in 2019-2020.

University of Kentucky landed the #6 spot on the 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region For Those Making $48-$75k ranking. UK is located in Lexington, Kentucky and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 73 masters’s library science degrees to qualified students.

Valdosta State University did quite well in the 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region For Those Making $48-$75k ranking, coming in at #7. Valdosta State University is a fairly large public school situated in Valdosta, Georgia. It awarded 87 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.

University of South Carolina - Columbia did quite well in the 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region For Those Making $48-$75k ranking, coming in at #8.
