In 2019-2020, 5,403 people earned their degree in library and information science, making the major the 124th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, library and information science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $41,496 and had an average of $36,654 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 1,114 library and information science graduates with average earnings and debt of $38,593 and $33,653 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 1,019 library and information science graduates with average earnings and debt of $53,950 and $43,286 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region For Those Making $75-$110k” ranking looked at 13 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in library and information science. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality library and information science programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.

Located in Boone, North Carolina, this large public school handed out 24 degrees to qualified masters’s library science students in 2019-2020.

VSU is located in Valdosta, Georgia and, has a fairly large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 87 masters’s library science degrees to qualified students.

University of South Carolina - Columbia ranked #8 on this year’s Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region For Those Making $75-$110k list. Columbia, South Carolina is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s library science degrees to 116 students in 2019-2020.
