In 2019-2020, 5,894 people earned their degree in library science, making the major the 35th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, library science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $41,658 and had an average of $36,277 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 1,172 library science graduates with average earnings and debt of $39,188 and $32,517 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 1,034 library science graduates with average earnings and debt of $53,950 and $43,286 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region For Those Making $48-$75k” ranking looked at 14 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in library science. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent library science programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.

This large school is located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and it awarded 54 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.

USF Tampa is located in Tampa, Florida and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 82 masters’s library science degrees to qualified students.

Located in Boone, North Carolina, this large public school handed out 24 diplomas to qualified masters’s library science students in 2019-2020.

Out of the 14 schools in the Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region For Those Making $48-$75k that were part of this year’s ranking, East Carolina University landed the #4 spot on the list. This large school is located in Greenville, North Carolina, and it awarded 83 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.

UK is a public institution located in Lexington, Kentucky. The school has a large population, and it awarded 73 masters’s degrees in 2019-2020.

Valdosta State University did quite well in the 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region For Those Making $48-$75k ranking, coming in at #7. VSU is located in Valdosta, Georgia and, has a fairly large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 87 masters’s library science degrees to qualified students.

UofSC is a large public school situated in Columbia, South Carolina. It awarded 116 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.

University of Central Arkansas came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region For Those Making $48-$75k ranking. This fairly large school is located in Conway, Arkansas, and it awarded 15 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.
