2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s
It’s not easy to decide which college to attend when there so many options available for students. One of our goals at College Factual is to give you as much information as we can - such as our “Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s” ranking - to help you make that decision.
In 2019-2020, 5,894 people earned their degree in library science, making the major the 35th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, library science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $41,658 and had an average of $36,277 in loans still to pay off.
At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 4,965 library science graduates with average earnings and debt of $56,398 and $43,194 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s” ranking looked at 46 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in library science. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great library science programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.
When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the library science program at the school and the cost to attend the school once aid has been awarded. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Out of the 46 schools in the Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s that were part of this year’s ranking, Texas Woman’s University landed the #1 spot on the list. This fairly large school is located in Denton, Texas, and it awarded 187 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Simmons University. The school came in at #2 for the Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s. Located in Boston, Massachusetts, this medium-sized private not-for-profit school awarded 272 diplomas to qualified masters’s library science students in 2019-2020.
Simmons did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #2 on our “Best Library Science Master’s Degree Schools” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at Simmons University are $21,698, but some majors have different tuition rates.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of North Texas. It ranked #3 on our 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s list. UNT is a large public school situated in Denton, Texas. It awarded 258 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.
In addition to being on our master’s degree library science students list, UNT has also earned the #23 rank in our “Best Library Science Master’s Degree Schools” ranking. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at UNT are $15,618.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Emporia State University. It ranked #4 on our 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s list. This medium-sized school is located in Emporia, Kansas, and it awarded 148 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.

East Carolina University landed the #7 spot on the 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s ranking. Greenville, North Carolina is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s library science degrees to 83 students in 2019-2020.
ECU also took the #25 spot in our “Best Library Science Master’s Degree Schools” ranking. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at East Carolina University are $20,685.
Dominican University landed the #8 spot on the 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s ranking. Dominican University is a small private not-for-profit school situated in River Forest, Illinois. It awarded 63 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.
Dominican U also made our “Best Library Science Master’s Degree Schools” list, coming in at #20. Average graduate tuition and fees at Dominican U are $20,884, but some majors have different tuition rates.
Queens College did quite well in the 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s ranking, coming in at #9. This fairly large school is located in Queens, New York, and it awarded 117 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.
QC not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #13 on our “Best Library Science Master’s Degree Schools” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at QC are $21,042, but some majors have different tuition rates.
University of Wisconsin - Madison came in at #10 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s ranking. Located in Madison, Wisconsin, this large public school handed out 84 diplomas to qualified masters’s library science students in 2019-2020.
UW - Madison not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #9 on our “Best Library Science Master’s Degree Schools” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at UW - Madison are $25,523, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.
With a ranking of #11, LIU Post did quite well on the 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s list. LIU Post is located in Brookville, New York and, has a fairly large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 58 masters’s library science degrees to qualified students.

University of Maryland - College Park came in at #14 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s ranking. University of Maryland - College Park is a large public school situated in College Park, Maryland. It awarded 86 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.
