In 2019-2020, 64,869 people earned their degree in health and physical education, making the major the 11th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, health and physical education graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $29,872 and had an average of $24,778 in loans still to pay off.
At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 8,567 health and physical education graduates with average earnings and debt of $56,398 and $43,194 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value Phys Ed Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $0-$30k” ranking looked at 287 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in health and physical education. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great health and physical education programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the health and physical education program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Out of the 287 schools in the Best Value Phys Ed Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $0-$30k that were part of this year’s ranking, Northwestern University landed the #1 spot on the list. Located in Evanston, Illinois, this large private not-for-profit school awarded 38 degrees to qualified masters’s phys ed students in 2019-2020.

Washington, District of Columbia is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning.
