In 2019-2020, 21,951 people earned their degree in chemistry, making the major the 44th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, chemistry graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $38,704 and had an average of $22,279 in loans still to pay off.

At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 2,244 chemistry graduates with average earnings and debt of $56,398 and $43,194 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value Chemistry Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k” ranking analyzed 200 colleges that offered a degree in chemistry. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent chemistry programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.
