Criminology is the 82nd most popular major in the country with 10,182 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, criminology graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $32,583 and had an average of $24,397 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southeast region, there were 2,282 criminology graduates with average earnings and debt of $29,311 and $23,727 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 2,150 criminology graduates with average earnings and debt of $36,277 and $25,415 respectively.

For this year’s “Best Value Criminology Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southeast Region” ranking, we looked at 28 colleges that offer a degree in criminology. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality criminology programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.

Out of the 28 schools in the Best Value Criminology Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of South Florida - Main Campus landed the #1 spot on the list. Tampa, Florida is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out bachelors’s criminology degrees to 425 students in 2019-2020.

USF Tampa did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #5 on our “Best Criminology Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list. The yearly cost to attend USF Tampa is $8,355 for Southeast Region Bachelor’s Degree Criminology students.

The low student loan default rate of 4.5% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%. Located in Statesboro, Georgia, this large public school awarded 106 diplomas to qualified bachelors’s criminology students in 2019-2020.
