For this year's Best Music Colleges for Non-Traditional Students in the Southwest Region ranking, we looked at 15 colleges that offer a bachelor's in music. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great music programs and a strong support system for non-traditional students.

Top 10 Best Music Schools for Non-Traditional Students
University of Houston tops the 2021 list of our schools in the Southwest Region that are best for non-traditional music students. UH is a very large public school located in the city of Houston. UH not only placed well in our non-traditional rankings. It is also #1 on our Best Colleges for Music in the Southwest Region list.
About 0.5% of UH students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. Approximately 26,121 students take at least one class online at UH. 13,663 of UH students are attending part time.

The #2 spot in this year's ranking belongs to University of North Texas. UNT is a fairly large public school located in the medium-sized city of Denton. In addition to being on our best for non-traditional students list, UNT has also earned the #4 rank in our Best Colleges for Music in the Southwest Region ranking.
About 1.8% of UNT students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. Approximately 20,194 students take at least one class online at UNT. There are roughly 12,105 part time students in attendance at UNT.

Texas Tech University comes in at #3 in this year's ranking. Located in the large city of Lubbock, Texas Tech is a public college with a fairly large student population. In addition to being on our best for non-traditional students list, Texas Tech has also earned the #3 rank in our Best Colleges for Music in the Southwest Region ranking.
About 1.4% of Texas Tech students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. There are approximately 22,394 students at Texas Tech that take at least one class online. About 7,077 of the students at Texas Tech are attending part time.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley landed the #4 spot in our 2021 best music schools for non-traditional students. Located in the midsize city of Edinburg, UT Rio Grande Valley is a public school with a very large student population. UT Rio Grande Valley not only placed well in our non-traditional rankings. It is also #6 on our Best Colleges for Music in the Southwest Region list.

Located in the distant town of Huntsville, SHSU is a public college with a very large student population. SHSU also made our Best Colleges for Music in the Southwest Region list, coming in at #8.
About 1.2% of SHSU students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. There are approximately 8,795 students at SHSU that take at least one class online. There are roughly 6,353 part time students in attendance at SHSU.
