In 2019-2020, 57,893 people earned their degree in finance and financial management, making the major the 14th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, finance and financial management graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $51,578 and had an average of $26,517 in loans still to pay off.
At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 5,353 finance and financial management graduates with average earnings and debt of $56,398 and $43,194 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value Finance Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $0-$30k” ranking analyzed 159 colleges that offered a degree in finance and financial management. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent finance and financial management programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the finance and financial management program at the school. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Pennsylvania. It ranked #1 on our 2022 Best Value Finance Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $0-$30k list. UPenn is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 375 masters’s finance degrees to qualified students.
UPenn not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #1 on our “Best Finance & Financial Management Master’s Degree Schools” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at UPenn are $41,760, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.

Out of the 159 schools in the Best Value Finance Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $0-$30k that were part of this year’s ranking, Yale University landed the #2 spot on the list. New Haven, Connecticut is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out masters’s finance degrees to 11 students in 2019-2020.
Yale also took the #17 spot in our “Best Finance & Financial Management Master’s Degree Schools” ranking. Average graduate tuition and fees at Yale are $44,500, but some majors have different tuition rates.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Northwestern University. The school came in at #3 for the Best Value Finance Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $0-$30k. Evanston, Illinois is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out masters’s finance degrees to 27 students in 2019-2020.
Northwestern also made our “Best Finance & Financial Management Master’s Degree Schools” list, coming in at #4. Average graduate tuition and fees at Northwestern University are $56,567, but some majors have different tuition rates.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Washington University in St Louis. It ranked #4 on our 2022 Best Value Finance Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $0-$30k list. WUSTL is a private not-for-profit institution located in Saint Louis, Missouri. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 166 masters’s degrees in 2019-2020.

With a ranking of #7, Georgetown University did quite well on the 2022 Best Value Finance Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $0-$30k list. Washington, District of Columbia is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out masters’s finance degrees to 104 students in 2019-2020.
