In 2019-2020, 2,737 people earned their degree in American Sign Language, making the major the 197th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, American Sign Language graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $30,270 and had an average of $21,733 in loans still to pay off.
At the associate degree level specifically, there were 1,023 American Sign Language graduates with average earnings and debt of $33,082 and $17,678 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value ASL Schools for an Associate For Those Making $0-$30k” ranking, we looked at 12 colleges that offer a degree in American Sign Language. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great American Sign Language programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.

Lansing, Michigan is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out associates’s ASL degrees to 26 students in 2019-2020.
LCC did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #1 on our “Best American Sign Language Associate Degree Schools” list. It costs about $4,494 for Associate Degree ASL students whose families make $0-$30k per year to attend LCC.
Out of the 12 schools in the Best Value ASL Schools for an Associate For Those Making $0-$30k that were part of this year’s ranking, Oklahoma State University - Oklahoma City landed the #2 spot on the list. OSU-OKC is a small school located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma that handed out 13 associates’s ASL degrees in 2019-2020.

Out of the 12 schools in the Best Value ASL Schools for an Associate For Those Making $0-$30k that were part of this year’s ranking, Tarrant County College District landed the #3 spot on the list. Tarrant County College is a large public school situated in Fort Worth, Texas. It awarded 22 associates’s ASL degrees in 2019-2020.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at Tarrant County College, the school also landed the #4 spot in our “Best American Sign Language Associate Degree Schools” ranking. Southwestern Illinois College came in at #8 in this year’s edition of the Best Value ASL Schools for an Associate For Those Making $0-$30k ranking. Southwestern Illinois College is a medium-sized public school situated in Belleville, Illinois. It awarded 16 associates’s ASL degrees in 2019-2020.
