2022 Best Value Doctor’s Degree Colleges for Germanic Languages (Income $0-$30k) in the Southeast Region

In 2019-2020, 1,415 people earned their degree in Germanic languages, making the major the 216th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, Germanic languages graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $34,200 and had an average of $22,114 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 207 Germanic languages graduates with average earnings and debt of $23,800 and $20,750 respectively. At the doctor’s degree level specifically, there were 12 Germanic languages graduates with average earnings and debt of $71,978 and $116,300 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value German Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region For Those Making $0-$30k” ranking, we looked at 3 colleges that offer a degree in Germanic languages. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality Germanic languages programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Duke University. It ranked #1 on our 2022 Best Value German Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region For Those Making $0-$30k list. Located in Durham, North Carolina, this fairly large private not-for-profit school awarded 5 degrees to qualified doctorate’s German students in 2019-2020.
Duke also made our “Best Germanic Languages Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list, coming in at #1. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at Duke are $59,140.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Vanderbilt University. The school came in at #2 for the Best Value German Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region For Those Making $0-$30k. Vanderbilt is a fairly large private not-for-profit school situated in Nashville, Tennessee. It awarded 2 doctorate’s German degrees in 2019-2020.
Vanderbilt not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #2 on our “Best Germanic Languages Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at Vanderbilt University are $50,624, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The school came in at #3 for the Best Value German Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region For Those Making $0-$30k. Located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, this large public school handed out 5 degrees to qualified doctorate’s German students in 2019-2020.
