We steer clear of subjective measures since they don't give a clear picture when determining how one school compares to another.

Our 2021 rankings named University of Kentucky the best school in Kentucky for veterans working on their bachelor’s degree. Located in Lexington, Kentucky, the large public school handed out 7,882 bachelor’s degrees in 2019-2020.
According to our most recent data, UK supports 29,986 students, and 985 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 555 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $9,601. Students may be able to receive credit for their military training, depending on their background.
Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 86%. UK also took the #1 spot in our Best Schools in Kentucky rankings.
A rank of #2 on our Best Colleges for Veterans in Kentucky list means University of Louisville is a great place for students working on their bachelor’s degree. UofL is a large public school situated in Louisville, Kentucky. It awarded 5,110 bachelor’s degrees in 2019-2020.
Among the 22,211 students enrolled at UofL, 854 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 518 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $9,524. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.

A rank of #3 on our Best Colleges for Veterans in Kentucky list means Murray State University is a great place for students working on their bachelor’s degree. This medium-sized public school is located in Murray, Kentucky, and it awarded 2,132 bachelor’s degrees in 2019-2020.
According to our most recent data, Murray State supports 9,449 students, and 395 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 206 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $7,982. Murray State does offer credit for military training for eligible students.
A rank of #4 on our Best Colleges for Veterans in Kentucky list means Northern Kentucky University is a great place for students working on their bachelor’s degree. This fairly large public school is located in Highland Heights, Kentucky, and it awarded 3,045 bachelor’s degrees in 2019-2020.
Of the 16,211 students enrolled at NKU, 491 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 280 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. On top of its placing in our veterans ranking, NKU also did well on our Best Schools in Kentucky list. It’s in the top 20% of all schools reviewed in this analysis.
Out of the 31 schools in Kentucky that were part of this year’s ranking, University of the Cumberlands landed the #5 spot on the list. Cumberlands is a fairly large private not-for-profit school situated in Williamsburg, Kentucky. It awarded 4,149 bachelor’s degrees in 2019-2020.

Among the 3,293 students enrolled at Bellarmine U, 109 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 79 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. Eastern Kentucky University landed the #7 spot on the 2021 Best Colleges for Veterans in Kentucky ranking. Eastern is a fairly large public school situated in Richmond, Kentucky. It awarded 3,709 bachelor’s degrees in 2019-2020.
According to our most recent data, Eastern supports 14,465 students, and 919 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 551 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
