About Our Rankings
Ranking Types
We publish several core ranking types. Badge licensing is granted by ranking type. When you purchase a ranking type license you get the right to use any of the rankings and badges within that type, including any cohorts noted further below.
Ranking Cohorts
For many of the ranking types noted above we provide rankings and badges for several sub-lists of smaller sets of schools within that list. With the purchase of a license to any of the ranking types noted above you also get a license to any sub-list that falls within that ranking type.
Most rankings provide breakdowns by both region and state. Many of our newer rankings provide breakdowns by degree level. Our most important cohorts are our rankings by major.
Rankings by Major
We rank every major included in the Classification of Instructional programs which amounts to over 2,000 different rankings. We believe that the quality of a school is a function of the quality of the programs in it. As noted in our Best Colleges Ranking Methodology, these individual rankings by major are when then bubble up to form our higher level overall rankings.
