General Agriculture is the 157th most popular major in the country with 3,370 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, general agriculture graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $36,894 and had an average of $20,543 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Plains States region, there were 418 general agriculture graduates with average earnings and debt of $34,991 and $18,919 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Plains States Region for Agriculture for a Master’s” ranking looked at 4 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in general agriculture. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent general agriculture programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

Top 4 Best General Agriculture Master’s Degree Colleges for Veterans in the Plains States Region
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Nebraska - Lincoln. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Plains States Region for Agriculture for a Master’s list. This large school is located in Lincoln, Nebraska, and it awarded 19 masters’s agriculture degrees in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at UNL, the school also landed the #1 spot in our “Best General Agriculture Master’s Degree Schools in the Plains States Region” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 690 of the 25,108 students enrolled at UNL were GI Bill® students, of which 344 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $6,374. On top of their other funding sources, 79 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program.
