With all of the options veterans have for higher education today, it can be tough to choose which direction to take. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Agriculture” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
General Agriculture is the 157th most popular major in the country with 3,370 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, general agriculture graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $36,894 and had an average of $20,543 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 823 general agriculture graduates with average earnings and debt of $32,401 and $22,644 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Agriculture” ranking analyzed 15 colleges that offered a degree in general agriculture. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality general agriculture programs as well as strong veteran support.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the general agriculture program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Top 15 Best General Agriculture Colleges for Veterans in the Southeast Region
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Auburn University. The school came in at #1 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Agriculture. Auburn University is a large school located in Auburn, Alabama that handed out 30 ’s agriculture degrees in 2020-2021.
Auburn not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Our most recent data shows that 1,499 of the 30,737 students enrolled at Auburn were GI Bill® students, of which 746 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $8,423. To help with additional expenses, 68 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend North Carolina State University. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Agriculture list. North Carolina State University is a public institution located in Raleigh, North Carolina. The school has a large population, and it awarded 46 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
NC State also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Among the 36,042 students enrolled at North Carolina State University, 1,102 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 493 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $5,886. In addition to being on our southeast region vets studying agriculture list, Virginia Tech has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Among the 37,024 students enrolled at Virginia Tech, 119 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 108 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $12,314. To help with additional expenses, 0 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program.

UT Martin is a medium-sized school located in Martin, Tennessee that handed out 118 ’s agriculture degrees in 2020-2021.

WKU is a public institution located in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 72 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
WKU did well in our major quality rankings, too. Tennessee Tech University not only placed well in this ranking. With a freshman retention rate of 94%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students. The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%.

North Carolina A & T State University came in at #8 in this year’s edition of the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Agriculture ranking. This fairly large school is located in Greensboro, North Carolina, and it awarded 35 ’s agriculture degrees in 2020-2021.
NC A&T also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].According to our most recent data, NC A&T supports 12,753 students, and 789 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 245 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
