With all of the options veterans have for higher education today, it can be tough to choose which direction to take. College Factual was founded, in part, to help students make the decision as to what would be the best school for them. Our “Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Plant Sciences” ranking is part of that endeavor.
In 2020-2021, 3,175 people earned their degree in plant sciences, making the major the 164th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, plant sciences graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $38,727 and had an average of $19,352 in loans still to pay off.
Across the New England region, there were 67 plant sciences graduates with average earnings and debt of $33,393 and $24,000 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Plant Sciences” ranking analyzed 3 colleges that offered a degree in plant sciences. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent plant sciences programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

Top 3 Best Plant Sciences Colleges for Veterans in the New England Region
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Connecticut. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Plant Sciences list. UCONN is a large school located in Storrs, Connecticut that handed out 12 ’s plant sciences degrees in 2020-2021.
UCONN also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Our most recent data shows that 1 of the 27,215 students enrolled at UCONN were GI Bill® students, of which 0 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $0. During this same period, 0 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program.
The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%. With a freshman retention rate of 93%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Massachusetts Amherst. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Plant Sciences list. University of Massachusetts Amherst is a large public school situated in Amherst, Massachusetts. It awarded 22 ’s plant sciences degrees in 2020-2021.
UMass Amherst also took the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Among the 31,642 students enrolled at University of Massachusetts Amherst, 477 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 252 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $8,295. On top of their other funding sources, 21 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. University of Massachusetts Amherst offers credit for military training for eligible students.
The low undergrad student loan default rate of [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%. The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 89%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Vermont. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Plant Sciences list. University of Vermont is a fairly large school located in Burlington, Vermont that handed out 18 ’s plant sciences degrees in 2020-2021.
UVM also took the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 218 of the 13,292 students enrolled at UVM were GI Bill® students, of which 142 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $10,767. During this same period, 19 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.
