When it comes to choosing a college, veterans have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Genetics” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
In 2020-2021, 1,543 people earned their degree in genetics, making the major the 206th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, genetics graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $36,723 and had an average of $22,299 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Great Lakes region, there were 478 genetics graduates with average earnings and debt of $32,211 and $21,995 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Genetics” ranking, we looked at 11 colleges that offer a degree in genetics. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent genetics programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

UChicago is a fairly large school located in Chicago, Illinois that handed out 34 ’s genetics degrees in 2020-2021.
UChicago not only placed well in this ranking.
