In 2020-2021, 17,689 people earned their degree in hospitality management, making the major the 66th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, hospitality management graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $35,874 and had an average of $22,906 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Great Lakes region, there were 2,087 hospitality management graduates with average earnings and debt of $32,693 and $24,502 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value Hospitality Schools in the Great Lakes Region For Those Making $0-$30k” ranking, we looked at 52 colleges that offer a degree in hospitality management. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent hospitality management programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Purdue University - Main Campus. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Best Value Hospitality Schools in the Great Lakes Region For Those Making $0-$30k list. West Lafayette, Indiana is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s hospitality degrees to 137 students in 2020-2021.
Purdue also took the #1 spot in our “Best Hospitality Management Schools in the Great Lakes Region” ranking. The yearly cost to attend Purdue University - Main Campus is $5,995 for great lakes region hospitality students whose families make $0-$30k.

Out of the 52 schools in the Best Value Hospitality Schools in the Great Lakes Region For Those Making $0-$30k that were part of this year’s ranking, Michigan State University landed the #2 spot on the list. Located in East Lansing, Michigan, this large public school awarded 177 diplomas to qualified ’s hospitality students in 2020-2021.
Michigan State also took the #3 spot in our “Best Hospitality Management Schools in the Great Lakes Region” ranking. It costs about $6,927 for great lakes region hospitality students whose families make $0-$30k per year to attend Michigan State University.
