When it comes to choosing a college, veterans have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. College Factual was founded, in part, to help students make the decision as to what would be the best school for them. Our “Most Veteran Friendly for Communications for an Associate” ranking is part of that endeavor.
Communication & Media Studies is one of the most popular majors in the nation, ranking 10th of all the majors we analyze. In 2020-2021, 66,787 degrees were awarded to students with this major. In 2019-2020, communication and media studies graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $34,115 and had an average of $25,414 in loans still to pay off.
At the associate degree level specifically, there were 6,434 communication and media studies graduates with average earnings and debt of $35,806 and $19,336 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly for Communications for an Associate” ranking analyzed 15 colleges that offered a degree in communication and media studies. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent communication and media studies programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

Utah Valley University ranked #9 on this year’s Most Veteran Friendly for Communications for an Associate list. This large school is located in Orem, Utah, and it awarded 1 associates’s communications degrees in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at UVU, the school also landed the #14 spot in our “Best Communication & Media Studies Associate Degree Schools” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 813 of the 40,936 students enrolled at UVU were GI Bill® students, of which 379 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The low undergrad student loan default rate of [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.
