Veterans have lots of options to chooose from today when trying to decide which college to attend. College Factual was founded, in part, to help students make the decision as to what would be the best school for them. Our “Most Veteran Friendly for Photojournalism” ranking is part of that endeavor.
Photojournalism is the 883rd most popular major in the country with 144 degrees awarded in 2020-2021.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly for Photojournalism” ranking analyzed 12 colleges that offered a degree in photojournalism. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent photojournalism programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as veteran satisfaction, veteran affordability, and overall quality of the photojournalism program at the school. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Top 12 Best Photojournalism Colleges for Veterans
Out of the 12 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly for Photojournalism that were part of this year’s ranking, Syracuse University landed the #1 spot on the list. Syracuse University is a large school located in Syracuse, New York that handed out 34 ’s photojournalism degrees in 2020-2021.
Syracuse did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Among the 21,322 students enrolled at Syracuse University, 385 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 250 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $20,840. To help with additional expenses, 217 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.
With a freshman retention rate of 89%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students. The low undergrad student loan default rate of [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. Washington, District of Columbia is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out ’s photojournalism degrees to 13 students in 2020-2021.
GWU did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Our most recent data shows that 1 of the 27,017 students enrolled at GWU were GI Bill® students, of which 1 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. Central Michigan is located in Mount Pleasant, Michigan and, has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 16 ’s photojournalism degrees to qualified students.

Point Park University is a small private not-for-profit school situated in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It awarded 2 ’s photojournalism degrees in 2020-2021.
In addition to being on our vets studying photojournalism list, Point Park has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Of the 3,591 students enrolled at Point Park University, 110 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. UC also took the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 909 of the 40,826 students enrolled at UC were GI Bill® students, of which 498 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. Columbia College Chicago came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Most Veteran Friendly for Photojournalism ranking. Located in Chicago, Illinois, this medium-sized private not-for-profit school handed out 9 diplomas to qualified ’s photojournalism students in 2020-2021.
Columbia also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Of the 6,769 students enrolled at Columbia, 140 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 98 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $17,151.
