With all of the options veterans have for higher education today, it can be tough to choose which direction to take. Journalism is the 69th most popular major in the country with 13,552 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, journalism graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $32,953 and had an average of $23,734 in loans still to pay off.
Across Florida, there were 383 journalism graduates with average earnings and debt of $33,709 and $21,484 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 273 journalism graduates with average earnings and debt of $38,395 and $25,950 respectively.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Miami. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in Florida for Journalism for a Bachelor’s list. U Miami is a fairly large school located in Coral Gables, Florida that handed out 24 bachelors’s journalism degrees in 2020-2021.
U Miami not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #1 on our “Best Journalism Bachelor’s Degree Schools in Florida” list.Of the 17,809 students enrolled at U Miami, 4 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 4 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $22,198. To help with additional expenses, 2 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Students may be able to receive credit for their military training, depending on their background.

On top of their other funding sources, 77 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.

This medium-sized school is located in Tallahassee, Florida, and it awarded 43 bachelors’s journalism degrees in 2020-2021.
Florida A&M University also made our “Best Journalism Bachelor’s Degree Schools in Florida” list, coming in at #6.According to our most recent data, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University supports 9,184 students, and 21 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 8 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
