When it comes to choosing a college, veterans have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. One of our goals at College Factual is to give you as much information as we can - such as our “Most Veteran Friendly in the Far Western US Region for Journalism” ranking - to help you make that decision.
Journalism is the 69th most popular major in the country with 13,552 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, journalism graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $32,953 and had an average of $23,734 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Far Western US region, there were 2,197 journalism graduates with average earnings and debt of $33,202 and $21,567 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Far Western US Region for Journalism” ranking, we looked at 31 colleges that offer a degree in journalism. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent journalism programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the journalism program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Top 25 Best Journalism Colleges for Veterans in the Far Western US Region
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend University of Southern California. The school came in at #1 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Far Western US Region for Journalism. Los Angeles, California is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out ’s journalism degrees to 115 students in 2020-2021.
USC not only placed well in this ranking. This medium-sized school is located in Spokane, Washington, and it awarded 24 ’s journalism degrees in 2020-2021.
Gonzaga not only placed well in this ranking. California Baptist University ranked #23 on this year’s Most Veteran Friendly in the Far Western US Region for Journalism list. Riverside, California is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out ’s journalism degrees to 12 students in 2020-2021.
In addition to being on our far western us region vets studying journalism list, Cal Baptist has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.According to our most recent data, California Baptist University supports 11,317 students, and 532 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 390 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $15,716. On top of their other funding sources, 162 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.
