It’s not easy to decide which college to attend when there so many options available for veterans. Our “Most Veteran Friendly in Washington for Journalism” ranking is part of that endeavor.
Journalism is the 69th most popular major in the country with 13,552 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, journalism graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $32,953 and had an average of $23,734 in loans still to pay off.
Across Washington, there were 216 journalism graduates with average earnings and debt of $32,570 and $22,475 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in Washington for Journalism” ranking, we looked at 5 colleges that offer a degree in journalism. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent journalism programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

Top 5 Best Journalism Colleges for Veterans in Washington
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Gonzaga University. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in Washington for Journalism list. Gonzaga is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school situated in Spokane, Washington. It awarded 24 ’s journalism degrees in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at Gonzaga, the school also landed the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.According to our most recent data, Gonzaga University supports 7,295 students, and 270 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 231 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $14,276. During this same period, 73 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Gonzaga University offers credit for military training for eligible students.

Pullman, Washington is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s journalism degrees to 70 students in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at Wazzu, the school also landed the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 83 of the 31,159 students enrolled at Wazzu were GI Bill® students, of which 53 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $6,702. On top of their other funding sources, 1 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Wazzu does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

University of Washington - Seattle Campus is a large public school situated in Seattle, Washington. It awarded 39 ’s journalism degrees in 2020-2021.

WWU is located in Bellingham, Washington and, has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 59 ’s journalism degrees to qualified students.
WWU also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Our most recent data shows that 622 of the 15,197 students enrolled at WWU were GI Bill® students, of which 324 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $5,933. On top of their other funding sources, 7 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.
