Veterans have lots of options to chooose from today when trying to decide which college to attend. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Journalism” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
Journalism is the 69th most popular major in the country with 13,552 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, journalism graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $32,953 and had an average of $23,734 in loans still to pay off.
Across the New England region, there were 682 journalism graduates with average earnings and debt of $32,768 and $24,209 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Journalism” ranking, we looked at 14 colleges that offer a degree in journalism. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality journalism programs as well as strong veteran support.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as veteran satisfaction, veteran affordability, and overall quality of the journalism program at the school. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Top 14 Best Journalism Colleges for Veterans in the New England Region
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Quinnipiac University. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Journalism list. Hamden, Connecticut is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out ’s journalism degrees to 63 students in 2020-2021.
Quinnipiac not only placed well in this ranking. Located in Boston, Massachusetts, this large private not-for-profit school handed out 132 diplomas to qualified ’s journalism students in 2020-2021.
In addition to being on our new england region vets studying journalism list, Boston U has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 15 of the 32,718 students enrolled at Boston University were GI Bill® students, of which 1 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $25,162. In addition to receiving other benefits, 0 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program.

UMass Amherst is a large school located in Amherst, Massachusetts that handed out 101 ’s journalism degrees in 2020-2021.
UMass Amherst did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Our most recent data shows that 477 of the 31,642 students enrolled at UMass Amherst were GI Bill® students, of which 252 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $8,295. To help with additional expenses, 21 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.

University of Connecticut is located in Storrs, Connecticut and, has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 26 ’s journalism degrees to qualified students.
UCONN not only placed well in this ranking. Emerson College came in at #6 in this year’s edition of the Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for Journalism ranking. Located in Boston, Massachusetts, this medium-sized private not-for-profit school awarded 130 degrees to qualified ’s journalism students in 2020-2021.
Emerson did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.According to our most recent data, Emerson College supports 5,115 students, and 100 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 62 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. Out of that number, 17 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $16,419. To help with additional expenses, 0 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program.
