It’s not easy to decide which college to attend when there so many options available for veterans. College Factual was founded, in part, to help students make the decision as to what would be the best school for them. Our “Most Veteran Friendly in Virginia for Computer and Information Sciences for a Bachelor’s” ranking is part of that endeavor.
In 2020-2021, 51,681 people earned their degree in general computer and information sciences, making the major the 15th most popular in the United States.
Across Virginia, there were 2,478 general computer and information sciences graduates with average earnings and debt of $0 and $0 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 1,473 general computer and information sciences graduates with average earnings and debt of $39,553 and $27,844 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in Virginia for Computer and Information Sciences for a Bachelor’s” ranking, we looked at 10 colleges that offer a degree in general computer and information sciences. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent general computer and information sciences programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as veteran satisfaction, veteran affordability, and overall quality of the general computer and information sciences program at the school. See our ranking methodology to learn more.
The following schools top our list of the Best “Most Veteran Friendly in Virginia for Computer and Information Sciences for a Bachelor’s”.
Out of the 10 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in Virginia for Computer and Information Sciences for a Bachelor’s that were part of this year’s ranking, George Mason University landed the #1 spot on the list. GMU is a public institution located in Fairfax, Virginia. The school has a large population, and it awarded 315 bachelors’s degrees in 2020-2021.
GMU did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #3 on our “Best General Computer & Information Sciences Bachelor’s Degree Schools in Virginia” list.Our most recent data shows that 2,334 of the 38,541 students enrolled at George Mason University were GI Bill® students, of which 1,583 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. Virginia Tech is a public institution located in Blacksburg, Virginia. The school has a large population, and it awarded 365 bachelors’s degrees in 2020-2021.

The school came in at #3 for the Most Veteran Friendly in Virginia for Computer and Information Sciences for a Bachelor’s. James Madison University is located in Harrisonburg, Virginia and, has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 110 bachelors’s computer and information sciences degrees to qualified students.

University of Richmond landed the #10 spot on the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in Virginia for Computer and Information Sciences for a Bachelor’s ranking. Located in University of Richmond, Virginia, this small private not-for-profit school handed out 34 diplomas to qualified bachelors’s computer and information sciences students in 2020-2021.
URichmond not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #4 on our “Best General Computer & Information Sciences Bachelor’s Degree Schools in Virginia” list.According to our most recent data, University of Richmond supports 4,056 students, and 51 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 19 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $5,556. On top of their other funding sources, 15 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program.
