With all of the options veterans have for higher education today, it can be tough to choose which direction to take. For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Plains States Region for Informatics” ranking, we looked at 5 colleges that offer a degree in informatics. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent informatics programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as veteran satisfaction, veteran affordability, and overall quality of the informatics program at the school. See our ranking methodology to learn more.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Iowa. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Plains States Region for Informatics list. Iowa City, Iowa is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s informatics degrees to 43 students in 2020-2021.
Iowa also took the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 1 of the 30,318 students enrolled at Iowa were GI Bill® students, of which 0 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $0. In addition to receiving other benefits, 0 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.
With a freshman retention rate of 88%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students. The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Saint Louis University. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Plains States Region for Informatics list. SLU is a fairly large school located in Saint Louis, Missouri that handed out 18 ’s informatics degrees in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at SLU, the school also landed the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 5 of the 12,229 students enrolled at Saint Louis University were GI Bill® students, of which 1 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $25,162. On top of their other funding sources, 0 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.
The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 90%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year. The impressive undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio of 9 to 1 means that students may have more opportunities to work more closely with their professors than they would at other schools. As a testament to the quality of education offered at UNOMAHA, the school also landed the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Of the 15,892 students enrolled at University of Nebraska at Omaha, 928 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 488 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $5,364. In addition to receiving other benefits, 75 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. University of Nebraska at Omaha offers credit for military training for eligible students.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Metropolitan Community College. The school came in at #4 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Plains States Region for Informatics. Metropolitan Community College is located in Omaha, Nebraska and, has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 2 ’s informatics degrees to qualified students.
MCC did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Our most recent data shows that 653 of the 13,244 students enrolled at Metropolitan Community College were GI Bill® students, of which 283 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $835. On top of their other funding sources, 0 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Metropolitan Community College does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

ESU is a medium-sized public school situated in Emporia, Kansas. It awarded 5 ’s informatics degrees in 2020-2021.
