When it comes to choosing a college, veterans have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. Our mission at College Factual is to arm you with as much information as we can to help you make that decision. Our “Most Veteran Friendly in Maryland for IS for a Bachelor’s” ranking is one tool we have developed to help in this regard.
In 2020-2021, 18,325 people earned their degree in information science, making the major the 58th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, information science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $59,394 and had an average of $28,852 in loans still to pay off.
Across Maryland, there were 3,829 information science graduates with average earnings and debt of $67,920 and $26,361 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 2,844 information science graduates with average earnings and debt of $40,642 and $26,517 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in Maryland for IS for a Bachelor’s” ranking looked at 10 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in information science. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent information science programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Maryland - College Park. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in Maryland for IS for a Bachelor’s list. College Park, Maryland is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out bachelors’s IS degrees to 642 students in 2020-2021.
UMCP did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #1 on our “Best Information Science Bachelor’s Degree Schools in Maryland” list.Our most recent data shows that 16 of the 40,709 students enrolled at UMCP were GI Bill® students, of which 13 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
