Veterans have lots of options to chooose from today when trying to decide which college to attend. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for IT for a Master’s” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
In 2020-2021, 40,555 people earned their degree in information technology, making the major the 42nd most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, information technology graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $46,525 and had an average of $26,794 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southwest region, there were 4,146 information technology graduates with average earnings and debt of $41,872 and $27,941 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for IT for a Master’s” ranking analyzed 12 colleges that offered a degree in information technology. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent information technology programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the information technology program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran satisfaction. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Houston. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for IT for a Master’s list. Located in Houston, Texas, this large public school awarded 39 diplomas to qualified masters’s IT students in 2020-2021.
In addition to being on our southwest region master’s degree vets studying it list, UH has also earned the #5 rank in our “Best Information Technology Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking.According to our most recent data, UH supports 47,090 students, and 1,382 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 730 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $8,264. During this same period, 0 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. West Texas A&M University landed the #9 spot on the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for IT for a Master’s ranking. West Texas A&M University is a medium-sized public school situated in Canyon, Texas. It awarded 22 masters’s IT degrees in 2020-2021.
