Veterans have lots of options to chooose from today when trying to decide which college to attend. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Education for a Doctorate” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
In 2020-2021, 29,810 people earned their degree in general education, making the major the 41st most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, general education graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $48,719 and had an average of $23,394 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 4,037 general education graduates with average earnings and debt of $45,577 and $24,252 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Education for a Doctorate” ranking looked at 17 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in general education. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent general education programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

Nova Southeastern University did quite well in the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Education for a Doctorate ranking, coming in at #8. Located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, this large private not-for-profit school awarded 291 degrees to qualified doctorate’s education students in 2020-2021.
NUS Florida did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #3 on our “Best General Education Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list.According to our most recent data, NUS Florida supports 20,888 students, and 522 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 335 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $12,213. In addition to receiving other benefits, 70 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Students may be able to receive credit for their military training, depending on their background.
