When pursuing a degree in today’s world, veterans have many different options to choose from. College Factual has developed its “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Other Education” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
Other Education is the 142nd most popular major in the country with 4,858 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, other education graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $47,827 and had an average of $25,433 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Great Lakes region, there were 494 other education graduates with average earnings and debt of $42,725 and $27,863 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Other Education” ranking analyzed 26 colleges that offered a degree in other education. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great other education programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.
When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the other education program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran satisfaction. See our ranking methodology to learn more.

Out of the 26 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Other Education that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Dayton landed the #1 spot on the list. Located in Dayton, Ohio, this fairly large private not-for-profit school awarded 31 degrees to qualified ’s other education students in 2020-2021.
UDayton did well in our major quality rankings, too. Rockford University ranked #24 on this year’s Most Veteran Friendly in the Great Lakes Region for Other Education list. Located in Rockford, Illinois, this small private not-for-profit school awarded 29 diplomas to qualified ’s other education students in 2020-2021.
Rockford also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Our most recent data shows that 27 of the 1,272 students enrolled at Rockford were GI Bill® students, of which 19 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $12,705. In addition to receiving other benefits, 8 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.
The impressive undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio of 10 to 1 means that students may have more opportunities to work more closely with their professors than they would at other schools.
