The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great education programs and a strong support system for non-traditional students.

The colleges and universities below are the best for non-traditional students studying education.
Western Governors University tops the 2021 list of our schools in the Rocky Mountains Region that are best for non-traditional education students. Located in the large suburb of Salt Lake City, WGU is a private not-for-profit school with a fairly large student population.
About 0.7% of WGU students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. All 150,116 students take classes exclusively online at WGU.
The #2 spot in this year's ranking belongs to Utah State University. USU is a very large public school located in the small city of Logan. USU also took the #2 spot in our Best Colleges for Education in the Rocky Mountains Region rankings.
About 0.8% of USU students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. There are approximately 13,751 students at USU that take at least one class online. About 9,734 of the students at USU are attending part time.
Our rankings recognize University of Northern Colorado as the #3 school in this year's rankings. University of Northern Colorado is a medium-sized public school located in the city of Greeley. University of Northern Colorado also made our Best Colleges for Education in the Rocky Mountains Region list, coming in at #5.

Brigham Young University - Provo comes in at #4 in this year's ranking. BYU is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in the midsize city of Provo. BYU not only placed well in our non-traditional rankings. It is also #1 on our Best Colleges for Education in the Rocky Mountains Region list.
About 0.4% of BYU students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. There are approximately 12,325 students at BYU that take at least one class online. About 4,504 of the students at BYU are attending part time.
Boise State University earned the #5 spot in our 2021 rankings. Boise State is a fairly large public school located in the medium-sized city of Boise. Boise State also took the #6 spot in our Best Colleges for Education in the Rocky Mountains Region rankings.

The University of Montana - Western landed the #6 spot in our 2021 best education schools for non-traditional students. Montana Western is a small public school located in the town of Dillon.

The #7 spot in this year's ranking belongs to Southern Utah University. Located in the town of Cedar City, Southern Utah University is a public college with a fairly large student population. University of Idaho landed the #8 spot in our 2021 best education schools for non-traditional students. Located in the town of Moscow, U of I is a public school with a large student population. U of I also took the #3 spot in our Best Colleges for Education in the Rocky Mountains Region rankings.
The student loan default rate at U of I is lower than is typical, just 1.2% of students default in three years. There are approximately 3,845 students at U of I that take at least one class online. About 3,189 of the students at U of I are attending part time.
Our rankings recognize Idaho State University as the #9 school in this year's rankings. Located in the city of Pocatello, ISU is a public college with a fairly large student population.
About 1.9% of ISU students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. Approximately 4,680 students take at least one class online at ISU. 5,142 of ISU students are attending part time.
Our rankings recognize Colorado State University - Fort Collins as the #10 school in this year's rankings. Colorado State is a very large public school located in the medium-sized city of Fort Collins. Colorado State did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #4 on our Best Colleges for Education in the Rocky Mountains Region list.
