Northern Arizona University tops the 2021 list of our schools in the Southwest Region that are best for non-traditional education students. Located in the small city of Flagstaff, NAU is a public school with a very large student population. NAU also made our Best Colleges for Education in the Southwest Region list, coming in at #8.
The student loan default rate at NAU is lower than is typical, just 1.7% of students default in three years. There are approximately 9,603 students at NAU that take at least one class online. 6,368 students are part time.

Grand Canyon University landed the #2 spot in our 2021 best education schools for non-traditional students. Located in the city of Phoenix, Grand Canyon University is a private for-profit school with a fairly large student population.
About 1.5% of Grand Canyon University students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. 79,865 students at Grand Canyon University are exclusively online. There are roughly 80,777 part time students in attendance at Grand Canyon University.

The #3 spot in this year's ranking belongs to Baylor University. Baylor is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in the city of Waco. In addition to being on our best for non-traditional students list, Baylor has also earned the #1 rank in our Best Colleges for Education in the Southwest Region ranking.
About 1.1% of Baylor students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. There are approximately 9,716 students at Baylor that take at least one class online. 2,125 students are part time.

University of New Mexico - Main Campus earned the #4 spot in our 2021 rankings. UNM is a fairly large public school located in the city of Albuquerque. As a testament to the quality of education offered at UNM, the school also landed the #7 rank in our Best Colleges for Education in the Southwest Region ranking.
The student loan default rate at UNM is lower than is typical, just 2.6% of students default in three years. There are approximately 8,254 students at UNM that take at least one class online. About 7,459 of the students at UNM are attending part time.

University of Central Oklahoma earned the #5 spot in our 2021 rankings. UCO is a large public school located in the large suburb of Edmond.
The school has a low student loan default rate of 2.4%. Approximately 5,223 students take at least one class online at UCO. There are roughly 4,113 part time students in attendance at UCO.

Arizona State University - Tempe landed the #6 spot in our 2021 best education schools for non-traditional students. ASU - Tempe is a very large public school located in the medium-sized city of Tempe. As a testament to the quality of education offered at ASU - Tempe, the school also landed the #2 rank in our Best Colleges for Education in the Southwest Region ranking.
