In 2020-2021, 36,792 people earned their degree in special education, making the major the 29th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, special education graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $45,679 and had an average of $24,977 in loans still to pay off.
Across Pennsylvania, there were 1,872 special education graduates with average earnings and debt of $44,151 and $27,000 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in Pennsylvania for Special Ed for a Master’s” ranking, we looked at 40 colleges that offer a degree in special education. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality special education programs as well as strong veteran support.

Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this medium-sized private not-for-profit school awarded 137 degrees to qualified masters’s special ed students in 2020-2021.
St. Joe’s also took the #1 spot in our “Best Special Education Master’s Degree Schools in Pennsylvania” ranking.Among the 6,779 students enrolled at St. Joe’s, 110 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data.
