In 2020-2021, 6,736 people earned their degree in engineering-related fields, making the major the 112th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, engineering-related fields graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $77,404 and had an average of $26,200 in loans still to pay off.
Across Ohio, there were 379 engineering-related fields graduates with average earnings and debt of $65,090 and $27,000 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in Ohio for Engineering-Related Fields” ranking, we looked at 5 colleges that offer a degree in engineering-related fields. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent engineering-related fields programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the engineering-related fields program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran satisfaction. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

The following schools top our list of the Best “Most Veteran Friendly in Ohio for Engineering-Related Fields”.
Out of the 5 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in Ohio for Engineering-Related Fields that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Dayton landed the #1 spot on the list. Dayton, Ohio is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out ’s engineering-related fields degrees to 47 students in 2020-2021.
In addition to being on our ohio vets studying engineering-related fields list, UDayton has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Of the 11,650 students enrolled at UDayton, 197 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 142 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $15,930. To help with additional expenses, 40 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. UDayton does offer credit for military training for eligible students.
The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%. Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 91%.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Miami University - Oxford. The school came in at #2 for the Most Veteran Friendly in Ohio for Engineering-Related Fields. Miami University - Oxford is a fairly large school located in Oxford, Ohio that handed out 17 ’s engineering-related fields degrees in 2020-2021.
Miami University - Oxford also took the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Among the 18,880 students enrolled at Miami University - Oxford, 405 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 259 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $6,877. During this same period, 6 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.
The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 88%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year. The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Bowling Green State University - Main Campus. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in Ohio for Engineering-Related Fields list. Located in Bowling Green, Ohio, this fairly large public school handed out 100 degrees to qualified ’s engineering-related fields students in 2020-2021.
BGSU did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Among the 18,142 students enrolled at BGSU, 577 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 258 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $6,808. To help with additional expenses, 3 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. BGSU offers credit for military training for eligible students.

Ohio University - Athens Campus is a public institution located in Athens, Ohio. The school has a large population, and it awarded 129 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
OHIO Athens also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Our most recent data shows that 726 of the 25,714 students enrolled at OHIO Athens were GI Bill® students, of which 324 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $6,725. In addition to receiving other benefits, 10 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Case Western Reserve University. It ranked #5 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in Ohio for Engineering-Related Fields list. Located in Cleveland, Ohio, this fairly large private not-for-profit school awarded 17 degrees to qualified ’s engineering-related fields students in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at Case Western, the school also landed the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Among the 11,465 students enrolled at Case Western, 109 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 69 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $18,799. On top of their other funding sources, 35 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program.
