Engineering-Related Fields is the 112th most popular major in the country with 6,736 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, engineering-related fields graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $77,404 and had an average of $26,200 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 1,480 engineering-related fields graduates with average earnings and debt of $74,093 and $24,582 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Engineering-Related Fields for a Master’s” ranking analyzed 12 colleges that offered a degree in engineering-related fields. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great engineering-related fields programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.
When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the engineering-related fields program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran satisfaction. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

The school came in at #1 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Engineering-Related Fields for a Master’s. Fayetteville, Arkansas is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s engineering-related fields degrees to 180 students in 2020-2021.
UARK not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #5 on our “Best Engineering-Related Fields Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list.Among the 27,562 students enrolled at UARK, 11 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Florida Institute of Technology is located in Melbourne, Florida and, has a medium-sized student population. Florida Tech also took the #3 spot in our “Best Engineering-Related Fields Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking.Among the 6,775 students enrolled at Florida Institute of Technology, 1 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Located in Miami, Florida, this large public school handed out 124 diplomas to qualified masters’s engineering-related fields students in 2020-2021.
In addition to being on our southeast region master’s degree vets studying engineering-related fields list, FIU has also earned the #4 rank in our “Best Engineering-Related Fields Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking.Of the 58,836 students enrolled at FIU, 1,079 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 606 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $6,771. In addition to receiving other benefits, 0 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.
With a freshman retention rate of 91%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students. The low undergrad student loan default rate of [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.

Eastern Kentucky University is a fairly large public school situated in Richmond, Kentucky. It awarded 14 masters’s engineering-related fields degrees in 2020-2021.
In addition to being on our southeast region master’s degree vets studying engineering-related fields list, Eastern has also earned the #8 rank in our “Best Engineering-Related Fields Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking.Among the 14,465 students enrolled at Eastern, 869 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 469 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $7,031. University of Louisville landed the #7 spot on the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Engineering-Related Fields for a Master’s ranking. UofL is a large school located in Louisville, Kentucky that handed out 58 masters’s engineering-related fields degrees in 2020-2021.
UofL also took the #12 spot in our “Best Engineering-Related Fields Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking.Of the 22,211 students enrolled at UofL, 17 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. University of South Florida - Main Campus ranked #8 on this year’s Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Engineering-Related Fields for a Master’s list. University of South Florida - Main Campus is located in Tampa, Florida and, has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 30 masters’s engineering-related fields degrees to qualified students.
In addition to being on our southeast region master’s degree vets studying engineering-related fields list, USF Tampa has also earned the #11 rank in our “Best Engineering-Related Fields Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 2,211 of the 50,626 students enrolled at University of South Florida - Main Campus were GI Bill® students, of which 1,241 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. UNC Charlotte not only placed well in this ranking. Duke University is a private not-for-profit institution located in Durham, North Carolina. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 130 masters’s degrees in 2020-2021.
