When it comes to choosing a college, students have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. College Factual has developed its “Most Well Attended HVAC Major” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
In 2020-2021, 7,017 people earned their degree in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration engineering technology/technician, making the major the 544th most popular in the United States.
For this year’s “Most Well Attended HVAC Major” ranking, we looked at 77 colleges that offer a degree in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration engineering technology/technician. To top this list, a school must have a successful heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration engineering technology/technician program that graduates more students in the field than other colleges that offer the same major.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Western Technical College. It ranked #1 on our 2023 Most Well Attended HVAC Major list. Located in El Paso, Texas, this small private for-profit school handed out 80 diplomas to qualified ’s HVAC students in 2020-2021.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Texas State Technical College. The school came in at #2 for the Most Well Attended HVAC Major. Waco, Texas is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s HVAC degrees to 81 students in 2020-2021.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Ferris State University. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Most Well Attended HVAC Major list. Big Rapids, Michigan is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s HVAC degrees to 29 students in 2020-2021.
Out of the 77 schools in the Most Well Attended HVAC Major that were part of this year’s ranking, Gadsden State Community College landed the #4 spot on the list. Gadsden State Community College is located in Gadsden, Alabama and, has a small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 36 ’s HVAC degrees to qualified students.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Austin Community College District. The school came in at #5 for the Most Well Attended HVAC Major. Austin Community College District is a large public school situated in Austin, Texas. It awarded 59 ’s HVAC degrees in 2020-2021.
With a ranking of #6, Ranken Technical College did quite well on the 2023 Most Well Attended HVAC Major list. This small school is located in Saint Louis, Missouri, and it awarded 69 ’s HVAC degrees in 2020-2021.
The low undergrad student loan default rate of 4.7% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.
Shelton State Community College did quite well in the 2023 Most Well Attended HVAC Major ranking, coming in at #7. Located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, this small public school awarded 17 degrees to qualified ’s HVAC students in 2020-2021.
Antelope Valley College came in at #8 in this year’s edition of the Most Well Attended HVAC Major ranking. This fairly large school is located in Lancaster, California, and it awarded 41 ’s HVAC degrees in 2020-2021.
Tarrant County College District landed the #8 spot on the 2023 Most Well Attended HVAC Major ranking. Tarrant County College District is a large school located in Fort Worth, Texas that handed out 68 ’s HVAC degrees in 2020-2021.
New England Institute of Technology landed the #10 spot on the 2023 Most Well Attended HVAC Major ranking. New England Tech is a small private not-for-profit school situated in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. It awarded 13 ’s HVAC degrees in 2020-2021.
The impressive undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio of 10 to 1 means that students may have more opportunities to work more closely with their professors than they would at other schools. The low undergrad student loan default rate of 2.2% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.

Macomb Community College ranked #12 on this year’s Most Well Attended HVAC Major list. Macomb Community College is a public institution located in Warren, Michigan. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 25 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Mott Community College did quite well in the 2023 Most Well Attended HVAC Major ranking, coming in at #12. MCC is a medium-sized school located in Flint, Michigan that handed out 20 ’s HVAC degrees in 2020-2021.

ITI Technical College landed the #14 spot on the 2023 Most Well Attended HVAC Major ranking. ITI Technical College is a private for-profit institution located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The school has a small population, and it awarded 11 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
College of Business and Technology-Hialeah landed the #14 spot on the 2023 Most Well Attended HVAC Major ranking. College of Business and Technology-Hialeah is a small school located in Hialeah, Florida that handed out 11 ’s HVAC degrees in 2020-2021.
