It’s not easy to decide which college to attend when there so many options available for veterans. Architectural Engineering is the 239th most popular major in the country with 1,012 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, architectural engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $65,501 and had an average of $25,395 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southwest region, there were 144 architectural engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $64,188 and $28,494 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Architectural Engineering” ranking, we looked at 6 colleges that offer a degree in architectural engineering. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent architectural engineering programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the architectural engineering program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Top 6 Best Architectural Engineering Colleges for Veterans in the Southwest Region
Out of the 6 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Architectural Engineering that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Oklahoma Norman Campus landed the #1 spot on the list. University of Oklahoma Norman Campus is a large public school situated in Norman, Oklahoma. It awarded 12 ’s architectural engineering degrees in 2020-2021.
University of Oklahoma also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Among the 27,772 students enrolled at University of Oklahoma, 12 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. The school came in at #2 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Architectural Engineering. The University of Texas at Austin is a large school located in Austin, Texas that handed out 64 ’s architectural engineering degrees in 2020-2021.
UT Austin also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Our most recent data shows that 7 of the 50,476 students enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin were GI Bill® students, of which 1 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $2,893. During this same period, 0 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Students may be able to receive credit for their military training, depending on their background.

University of Arizona is a large school located in Tucson, Arizona that handed out 10 ’s architectural engineering degrees in 2020-2021.
University of Arizona also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Our most recent data shows that 2,131 of the 45,601 students enrolled at University of Arizona were GI Bill® students, of which 1,478 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $8,880. To help with additional expenses, 31 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. University of Arizona does offer credit for military training for eligible students.
With a freshman retention rate of 85%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its undergraduate students.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Oklahoma State University - Main Campus. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in the Southwest Region for Architectural Engineering list. Oklahoma State University - Main Campus is a large school located in Stillwater, Oklahoma that handed out 10 ’s architectural engineering degrees in 2020-2021.
OSU not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.According to our most recent data, OSU supports 24,535 students, and 1,038 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 439 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. This large school is located in Arlington, Texas, and it awarded 27 ’s architectural engineering degrees in 2020-2021.
In addition to being on our southwest region vets studying architectural engineering list, UT Arlington has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Among the 48,072 students enrolled at The University of Texas at Arlington, 2,109 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data.
