With all of the options veterans have for higher education today, it can be tough to choose which direction to take. In 2020-2021, 28,844 people earned their degree in electrical engineering, making the major the 39th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, electrical engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $74,380 and had an average of $24,114 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 5,288 electrical engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $68,403 and $24,939 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for EE” ranking, we looked at 58 colleges that offer a degree in electrical engineering. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great electrical engineering programs and a strong support system for veterans and active service members.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as veteran satisfaction, veteran affordability, and overall quality of the electrical engineering program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

University of Alabama at Birmingham ranked #23 on this year’s Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for EE list. UAB is a public institution located in Birmingham, Alabama. The school has a large population, and it awarded 29 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
UAB also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Our most recent data shows that 1,194 of the 22,563 students enrolled at UAB were GI Bill® students, of which 508 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
