Engineering is one of the most popular majors in the nation, ranking 7th of all the majors we analyze. In 2020-2021, 198,468 degrees were awarded to students with this major. In 2019-2020, engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $68,653 and had an average of $23,855 in loans still to pay off.
Across Washington, there were 3,545 engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $73,364 and $21,357 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in Washington for Engineering” ranking looked at 10 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in engineering. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality engineering programs as well as strong veteran support.
When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the engineering program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran satisfaction. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Out of the 10 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in Washington for Engineering that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Washington - Seattle Campus landed the #1 spot on the list. UW Seattle is a large school located in Seattle, Washington that handed out 1,594 ’s engineering degrees in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at UW Seattle, the school also landed the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.According to our most recent data, University of Washington - Seattle Campus supports 48,149 students, and 1,283 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 769 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $14,190. In addition to receiving other benefits, 0 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. University of Washington - Seattle Campus does offer credit for military training for eligible students.
The low undergrad student loan default rate of [DEFAULT_RATE_STRING]% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%. Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 93%.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Washington State University. The school came in at #2 for the Most Veteran Friendly in Washington for Engineering. Pullman, Washington is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out ’s engineering degrees to 852 students in 2020-2021.
Wazzu did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Of the 31,159 students enrolled at Washington State University, 83 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 53 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $6,702. In addition to receiving other benefits, 1 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Washington State University does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Gonzaga University. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in Washington for Engineering list. Gonzaga is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school situated in Spokane, Washington. It awarded 164 ’s engineering degrees in 2020-2021.
Gonzaga not only placed well in this ranking. Lacey, Washington is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out ’s engineering degrees to 67 students in 2020-2021.
Saint Martin’s not only placed well in this ranking. Western Washington University is a public institution located in Bellingham, Washington. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 90 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
WWU also took the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Among the 15,197 students enrolled at Western Washington University, 622 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 324 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $5,933. Seattle University landed the #6 spot on the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in Washington for Engineering ranking. Seattle U is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school situated in Seattle, Washington. It awarded 99 ’s engineering degrees in 2020-2021.
In addition to being on our washington vets studying engineering list, Seattle U has also earned the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] rank in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.Our most recent data shows that 39 of the 7,050 students enrolled at Seattle University were GI Bill® students, of which 23 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $9,383. During this same period, 13 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Eastern Washington University landed the #7 spot on the 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in Washington for Engineering ranking. Eastern Washington University is a fairly large school located in Cheney, Washington that handed out 111 ’s engineering degrees in 2020-2021.
EWU not only placed well in this ranking. Seattle Pacific University came in at #8 in this year’s edition of the Most Veteran Friendly in Washington for Engineering ranking. This small school is located in Seattle, Washington, and it awarded 41 ’s engineering degrees in 2020-2021.
SPU also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].According to our most recent data, SPU supports 3,601 students, and 187 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 121 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. UW Bothell not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Our most recent data shows that 269 of the 6,304 students enrolled at UW Bothell were GI Bill® students, of which 175 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. UW Bothell offers credit for military training for eligible students.
