In 2020-2021, 40,481 people earned their degree in general English literature, making the major the 24th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, general English literature graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $29,881 and had an average of $23,769 in loans still to pay off.
Across the New England region, there were 3,465 general English literature graduates with average earnings and debt of $33,104 and $24,193 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 2,669 general English literature graduates with average earnings and debt of $42,403 and $25,944 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the New England Region for English for a Bachelor’s” ranking, we looked at 50 colleges that offer a degree in general English literature. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent general English literature programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.

Providence, Rhode Island is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out bachelors’s English degrees to 64 students in 2020-2021.
