When pursuing a degree in today’s world, veterans have many different options to choose from. Our “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Writing for a Bachelor’s” ranking is part of that endeavor.
In 2020-2021, 12,529 people earned their degree in writing studies, making the major the 81st most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, writing studies graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $32,208 and had an average of $24,626 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 3,131 writing studies graduates with average earnings and debt of $31,720 and $25,773 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 1,324 writing studies graduates with average earnings and debt of $37,400 and $27,180 respectively.
This year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Southeast Region for Writing for a Bachelor’s” ranking analyzed 28 colleges that offered a degree in writing studies. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent writing studies programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as veteran satisfaction, veteran affordability, and overall quality of the writing studies program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

It placed #4 on our “Best Writing Studies Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list.Among the 21,594 students enrolled at JMU, 842 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data.
