Area Studies is the 115th most popular major in the country with 6,966 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, area studies graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $33,127 and had an average of $20,927 in loans still to pay off.
Across Minnesota, there were 92 area studies graduates with average earnings and debt of $26,660 and $23,000 respectively.

Top 4 Best Area Studies Colleges for Veterans in Minnesota
Out of the 4 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in Minnesota for Area Studies that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Minnesota - Twin Cities landed the #1 spot on the list. UMN Twin Cities is a large school located in Minneapolis, Minnesota that handed out 12 ’s area studies degrees in 2020-2021.
UMN Twin Cities also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Our most recent data shows that 752 of the 52,017 students enrolled at UMN Twin Cities were GI Bill® students, of which 436 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Minnesota - Duluth. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Veteran Friendly in Minnesota for Area Studies list. University of Minnesota - Duluth is located in Duluth, Minnesota and, has a medium-sized student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 10 ’s area studies degrees to qualified students.
UMN Duluth also took the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.According to our most recent data, University of Minnesota - Duluth supports 10,275 students, and 249 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 88 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. Located in Northfield, Minnesota, this small private not-for-profit school handed out 28 degrees to qualified ’s area studies students in 2020-2021.

Carleton is a private not-for-profit institution located in Northfield, Minnesota. The school has a small population, and it awarded 15 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Carleton also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Among the 1,940 students enrolled at Carleton College, 18 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data.
