In 2020-2021, 35,945 people earned their degree in health sciences and services, making the major the 34th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, health sciences and services graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $35,887 and had an average of $24,736 in loans still to pay off.
Across the New England region, there were 2,006 health sciences and services graduates with average earnings and debt of $33,568 and $23,630 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Well Attended Health Science Major in the New England Region” ranking, we looked at 61 colleges that offer a degree in health sciences and services. This ranking identifies schools that graduate the most students in health sciences and services.

The school came in at #1 for the Most Well Attended Health Science Major in the New England Region. Southern New Hampshire University is a large private not-for-profit school situated in Manchester, New Hampshire. It awarded 268 ’s health science degrees in 2020-2021.
Out of the 61 schools in the Most Well Attended Health Science Major in the New England Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Boston University landed the #2 spot on the list. Boston University is a large school located in Boston, Massachusetts that handed out 212 ’s health science degrees in 2020-2021.
The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is 1.4%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%. The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 92%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year. The undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio of 10 to 1 is a sign that students will have more opportunities to engage with their professors one-on-one.

The low undergrad student loan default rate of 4.3% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%. Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 85%.
Out of the 61 schools in the Most Well Attended Health Science Major in the New England Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Hartford landed the #4 spot on the list. This medium-sized school is located in West Hartford, Connecticut, and it awarded 95 ’s health science degrees in 2020-2021.
Since the school has a undergrad student-to-faculty ratio of 8 to 1, those pursuing a degree will have more opportunities to interact with their professors.
Out of the 61 schools in the Most Well Attended Health Science Major in the New England Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Merrimack College landed the #5 spot on the list.
