In 2020-2021, 322,592 nursing students received their degree, making the major the 3rd most popular in the country. In 2019-2020, nursing graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $70,916 and had an average of $25,426 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Great Lakes region, there were 57,106 nursing graduates with average earnings and debt of $67,647 and $27,241 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value Nursing Schools in the Great Lakes Region For Those Getting Aid” ranking, we looked at 272 colleges that offer a degree in nursing. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent nursing programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.

The school came in at #2 for the Best Value Nursing Schools in the Great Lakes Region For Those Getting Aid. Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, this large public school awarded 738 diplomas to qualified ’s nursing students in 2020-2021.
IUPUI also took the #15 spot in our “Best Nursing Schools in the Great Lakes Region” ranking. The estimated yearly cost for Indiana University - Purdue University - Indianapolis is $12,416 for great lakes region nursing students with aid.
The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is 4.2%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Cuyahoga Community College District. The school came in at #3 for the Best Value Nursing Schools in the Great Lakes Region For Those Getting Aid. This fairly large school is located in Cleveland, Ohio, and it awarded 327 ’s nursing degrees in 2020-2021.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Purdue University - Main Campus. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Best Value Nursing Schools in the Great Lakes Region For Those Getting Aid list.
